Our riverside teepee space is available for use.

Formerly home to The Exchange Kitchen and Bar, the teepee is a space next to the Barking Riverside Project Office. The BRL team are now working to find an organisation, group or individual to take over the space – whether as a new permanent base for a local business, or as a venue for a one-off party.

Who can hire the space?
BRL are now accepting applications for new operators of the teepee. This might include:

  • A bar or kitchen provider who’d like to take over the space
  • A local business of any sort who’d like to trade from the space
  • A local group who wants to use the space for classes, meetings or workshops
  • Individuals or groups who want to hire the space for a party or private event

Key points to know:
The venue is currently furnished with furniture owned by BRL. The new operator is welcome to use this furniture, or bring in their own items to personalise the space.

Equipment from the previous operator is also available for businesses to use on a temporary basis while they get started. This includes a bar, fridges, cooking utensils and hot plates, suitable for a working kitchen and bar.

Any business taking over the teepee would need to operate for a minimum of three days, covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The teepee is currently set up to operate as a bar or kitchen, but it doesn’t have to stay this way. We will accept applications from any type of business or individual – the space is very flexible.

The teepee can accommodate up to 100 people comfortably, or up to 142 with an additional risk assessment.

BRL currently holds an events license for the teepee space, which a new operator would take over. Individuals hiring the space will need to complete ad-hoc risk assessments before booking.

Any businesses will need to hold all the relevant licenses and insurance documents, such as public liability insurance and food hygiene certificates.

The space is currently vacant, and BRL are looking to get a new operator in the space this Spring/Summer, to open to the public once applications have been received and agreements have been formally put in place.
