A DIVERSE AND ACTIVE COMMUNITY
Barking Riverside is home to an established and welcoming community of proud ‘Riversiders’. Residents are actively involved in shaping community life, from joining groups such as the Resident Events Panel to launching local projects thanks to schemes like the Barking Riverside Community Fund.
SUSTAINABILITY
Barking Riverside is committed to innovation and sustainability, helping to minimise our impact on the planet’s scarce resources. A prime example is the Envac waste collection system, which uses vacuum suction to remove household waste. This has helped Barking Riverside achieve some of the highest recycling rates in London compared to similar residential developments.
Our sustainable drainage system (SuDS) helps to manage the impacts of climate change whilst also providing habitats where wildlife can thrive.
INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS
Barking Riverside is delivered by the master developer Barking Riverside Limited (BRL), a joint venture between housing association L&Q and the Mayor of London. BRL unites diverse partners – including Homes England, Barking and Dagenham Council, Transport for London, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers and residents – around a long-term commitment to deliver a place residents can be proud of.
RICH HERITAGE
Barking Riverside is located on the site of the former Barking Power Station. Opened in 1925 by King George V, it once provided electricity to large parts of East London and was one of the largest steam-generating power stations in Europe. Today, the remaining buildings serve as an atmospheric backdrop for movies and TV series including The Batman, Luther and Gangs of London.
