Virtual Riverside Run

Barking Riverside Gets Moving for Charity

This October, we are setting a challenge for the people of Thames Ward - can you collectively run the length of the River Thames (346KM)? In partnership with Sporting Events UK, BRL are launching the Virtual Riverside Run, aimed at getting the community active, exploring their local area and coming together for a good cause.

Whether you're 8 or 80, get your trainers on and get moving.

We want as many people in the area - whether you're 8 or 80 - to get your trainers on and get moving. You can run wherever and whenever you like, as many times as you wish, and we want you to record your distance on our new online portal, contributing to the total distance run by all participants. On the portal, you'll be able to see how you and your family are getting on, as well as track the progress of your neighbours and the community.

If local people can run a total of 346KM by Saturday 24th October, then BRL will donate £1000 to Sporting Equals, a national charity dedicated to promoting ethnic diversity across sport and physical activity.

Individual prizes will also be awarded to some runners at the end of October for a number of categories - from further distance run and most runs completed to best selfie and most family members running. If you don't win a prize, rest assured - everyone taking part will get an exclusive BRL Virtual Run medal.

The challenge begins on 1st October and you can sign up here. Share your running selfies with us by using the hashtag #BRLVirtualRun. Good luck Thames Ward!
