A joint venture between L&Q and the Mayor of London, Barking Riverside is set to transform the area, with a nature reserve, pond habitats, playgrounds and cycle routes planned to run throughout the riverside masterplan, encouraging residents to appreciate the outdoors on two wheels.
Over 40 species of animals currently inhabit Barking Riverside, and from 2019, a dedicated Ecology Centre will also provide residents and local schools with information about the neighbourhood’s conservation activity.
London’s only ‘Healthy New Town’, an NHS initiative, health centres, a GP surgery and community and sports facilities will be integrated into the overall design of the 443-acre Barking Riverside site.
Sitting alongside a 2km stretch of the Thames, Barking Riverside residents enjoy speedy access to other parts of London from both Dagenham Dock and Barking Station (a quick bus-ride away). A brand new Barking Riverside station is due to open in 2021, extending the London Overground line and bringing the development within a 30-minute commute of the City.
